I tried to make a simplified schema of a classical architecture for a mobile and web application with a backend. I may have some expert comments in the details, but it helps to lay a bit of the groundwork for what we need (click on the image to enlarge it).

Code repository and DevOps

The goal here is to keep the code somewhere, with its different versions, to integrate the changes made by the developers and to push it into production after testing it. We’re not going to go into too much detail because it’s the whole DevOps process that’s at stake here and it can become very complex on some projects.

For Open Source projects Github is a big favorite as a repository, while Jenkins is a classic for CI/CD. However, one of the most widely used professional all-in-one tools is GitLab, which offers a very clear CI/CD interface. On the other hand, Microsoft has proposed a very complete tool under the name Azure DevOps Services. There are many others…

Infrastructure administration

The goal here is to manage the infrastructure and orchestrate the various services. The ideal is to have a code that describes the infrastructure and allows it to be easily deployed and modified from a set of restricted configuration files.
